Cayden’s work experience diary

Ahead of my placement, I felt excited to learn what it would be like working at a marketing agency and wanted to see different methods of marketing in use. I have had an interest in marketing for a long time now and wanted to learn more. I met the team when I first entered the building, who were all friendly, welcoming and offered to help me with anything I was unsure about. I was then given my own office space, where I would work for the week.

I first met Vicky, who gave me an introduction to the agency, an overview of the industry and why marketing agencies are needed. I then conducted competitor research, which helped me understand the industry better and see many different ways a company can market.

I learnt about SEO with Tegan, who was welcoming. She showed me why it is so important for a company to conduct SEO regularly for both customers and also for the ranking score of websites.

After a bit more overview on SEO and how companies can do it, I was set a task to pick a company. I went on their website and found things that I thought they could improve to help their organic rankings and help customers have a better experience on their website. The best thing I learnt during this SEO overview was to always ask WHY the company is doing certain things on their site.

The next thing I learned about was PPC with Tamas and Harry, who were very friendly and supportive with the tasks. I learnt about all the places where these ads are displayed on the search engines and then shown what Google Ads Manager looks like. I also learnt how to set up and create effective ad campaigns and looked into how to conduct keyword research. I was then set a task – I was given a company and did keyword research on different items they sold, but also wrote headlines and descriptions for these ads. The best thing I learnt on this day was about RSA and how to conduct keyword research.

After this, I learnt about paid social marketing. I learnt about how in-depth Meta’s targeting system is and about the Meta pixel. I saw how to set up and create effective Meta ads with good creatives and good copy. I was then set a task where I chose a company of my choice and created 2 ads that I would make for them on Meta, designing and deciding on the creatives to use and writing the copy for the ads. The best thing I learned here was how to write captivating copy that would be likely to sell potential customers a product.

The final thing I learned about in this placement was content creation with Chloe, who was also very friendly. She showed me how to come up with ideas for blogs, but also the importance of a company doing this to inform their customers and become established market leaders. It also helps with the company’s SEO rankings over competitors.

I then learned more about social media content and the importance of this for businesses. To engage with customers and as a form of communication with customers to connect with them. I was then set the task to design a social media post for a client on Canva. The best thing about this was coming up with ideas for different bits of content and the creativity with the content.

After this week at Loom, I have definitely gained a lot more knowledge on different marketing methods like PPC and paid social, SEO and content creation from the very helpful team, who made each of these topics fun and interesting to practise and learn about.

Overall, my work experience at Loom was everything I was hoping it would be and more. I think this week has helped me a lot in confirming that this is a career I would like to pursue in the future and I definitely learnt a lot of new skills this week that will help me in my future career.

I’m very happy I had the opportunity to work with the team at Loom Digital who were all very friendly, supportive and skilled at their jobs. I would definitely want to consider working at a marketing agency as my future career path as I think the work would be challenging, fun and rewarding at the same time.
