At Loom, our love for all aspects of digital marketing shines through – and we always want to share our knowledge and introduce people to the industry. So, when secondary school student Rose approached us about work experience, we were excited to show her what Loom is all about and provide real insight into agency life.

It’s safe to say she embraced the opportunity with enthusiasm. Rising to the occasion, she asked plenty of questions, took on tasks and joined our pods to learn about our digital marketing channels in detail – PPC & Biddable Media, SEO and Content.

As part of her week, Rose wrote a short blog documenting her experience. Keep reading to find how she got on…

Rose’s week of work experience at Loom Digital

Working with Loom has been an incredible experience that I will forever be grateful for. The team’s resilience, dedication and kindness goes far beyond what I could have ever imagined.

When I first started my placement with Loom, I had no idea what to expect but was soon comforted by the team’s warm, bubbly energy. I wanted to see if digital marketing was a possible career path for me, so it was great to get an insight into Loom’s work life. Over the course of the week, my main focus was on Content, but I am pleased to have also gained an understanding of PPC and SEO.

Upon arrival, I instantly met Chloe, who patiently delivered an overview of the agency’s work, specifically content marketing. I started with no knowledge of the topic, but was given all the necessary information to introduce me to the world of digital marketing. Without this, I would likely not understand anything else I later learned during my week. I was then given the task to create some blog ideas which I worked on in detail.

Later, I sat in a meeting with the Loom team, which was incredibly eye-opening. This was my first time attending a work meeting, one of the many new things I did during my placement. Seeing everyone in the same room together confirmed my suspicions: their excellent teamwork skills. Every single person contributed to the meeting as they worked on tackling the difficulties they faced.

The next day, I was given a detailed explanation about content marketing by Hugh which further developed my knowledge on the topic. I loved working with him and was excited to jump on the task he gave me: to write a blog page encouraging people to move to Bristol. I worked on this throughout the entire week, with some assistance from Rosie, who was so kind and supportive. This task was the highlight of my week as I had the opportunity to use my creativity, whilst also remaining factual.

On day three, Tamas and Harry introduced me to PPC. Prior to this, I had no idea what PPC was. They summarised the key info despite their tight schedule. This included describing how to create a successful ad campaign, which I was given the chance to try myself. I found this task fun yet challenging because it was unlike anything I’d done before.

Jack, who I immediately felt at ease with, introduced me to SEO. He provided a detailed explanation that I found very interesting. We explored the topics of keyword research, link building, competitive research, crawlability and more. I experimented with some of these concepts afterward, using Semrush as a tool to do so.

This week of work experience has been perfect. From the excessive expertise each person provides to their job to the warm, joyful environment in the office, I could not have hoped for a better experience. I enjoyed every second of it. I love the idea of working in a digital marketing agency further down the line so I thank Loom for making the idea even more compelling.
